Olivier Véran has given the green light for the sale of self-tests in pharmacies from April 12, but they could well be missing in pharmacies on Monday.
It was the big news of last week: the sale of self-tests in pharmacies, from this Monday, April 12. Information that must however be qualified since priorities have been established for the sale of these famous self-tests, suggesting a lack of stocks. Indeed, the State requisitioned a large part for schools, in order to prepare for the start of the school year. But that’s not all: for the moment, only six companies (four Chinese and two french) have been approved by the drug agency to sell their products. Among the French, it is the industrialists Biosynex and AAZ who have received the green light, and they could be joined by a third company, Innova Medical Group, which is still awaiting the agreement of the ANSM to deliver its stocks. “We already have pre-orders from pharmacies“, announced the director of communication of the company, Nicolas Contassot. Finally arises the third limit of the sale made exclusively in pharmacies, unlike our European neighbors who have, for the most part, authorized the sale of self-tests in supermarkets. “There must be a health professional who can sell these tests, explains how they work, it is not that simple.“, defended Olivier Véran.
Tests 80% reliable, if performed correctly
Self-tests – sold for 6 euros in April, then 5.20 euros from May 15 – are said to be 80% effective, provided they are used properly. “You don’t just have to tickle the tips of your nostrils, or you don’t have to.“, declared Gilles Bonnefond, the president of the Union of the Syndicates of Pharmacists of Officine, this Sunday on France Info. For a good use, it is necessary to introduce the cotton swab in the nostril on three-four centimeters then to turn it five times on itself before removing it Less intrusive than the PCR test, it still requires a little nasal inquisition.
