The artistic director of Balmain has just signed a partnership with the instituteThe Marangoni Paris.
After unveiling a unisex and inclusive collection in collaboration with Barbie, Olivier Rousteing, artistic director of Balmain, announced a one-year partnership with Istituto Marangoni Paris, school of design and fashion located in Paris. An initiative that stems directly from his own experience as a former fashion student: “There is a difference between learning from your studies, from your teachers, and having a designer or a creative director who comes to talk to you”explains to WWD the designer while emphasizing that he had never had the opportunity to interact with creators during his studies. This partnership follows his first conference given in 2019 within the school as well as a sponsorship of a scholarship in 2020.
The terms of the collaboration between Rousteing and the Istituto Marangoni Paris are still being defined but it should include a masterclass in front of the entire student body in April, a new scholarship sponsored by Balmain for the academic year beginning in October 2022 as well as student participation in the September edition of the Balmain Fashion Festival. At the same time, Rousteing will also advise Marangoni’s teaching staff on the school’s program and in particular on the field of inclusiveness, which he strives to place at the heart of each of his collections. As for his next fashion festival scheduled for September, Rousteing would consider the idea of a co-creation with students from the Istituto Marangoni Paris or even the personalization of Balmain items in order to sell them for charitable purposes.
A few months ago, Netflix unveiled its first luxury collaboration with Balmain.
