Oliver Kahn’s Return to Munich: Updates on His Relationship with FC Bayern and Future Plans

Oliver Kahn (54) shows up regularly in the city center again in Munich.

While the former world-class goalkeeper went into hiding after leaving FC Bayern and initially disappeared to his old home in Karlsruhe, among other places, Kahn is now mingling with people in Munich again – for example when he and his wife Svenja go to the lively “Brenner” restaurant in goes out to eat on Maximilianstrasse.

The exit from FC Bayern at the end of last season caused a stir. And it hurt the ambitious titan, who saw his mission as CEO at FC Bayern far from being fulfilled. During the conversation in the apartment of Honorary President Uli Hoeneß (71), things got emotional: Kahn, Hoeneß and President Herbert Hainer (69) argued loudly about the dismissal of the CEO.

In the meantime, however, things have calmed down and the relationship between Kahn and FC Bayern has relaxed. According to SPORT BILD information, there was an exchange between Hainer and Kahn during the summer break: the contract, which actually ran until December 31, 2024, was terminated. Kahn, whose salary as CEO at Bayern was estimated at around four million euros per year and who would have been entitled to around six million, is to receive a severance payment of around four to five million euros.

Hainer on Kahn’s dissolution: “Everything went amicably”

Kahn’s starting salary is said to have been just under one million euros, but was then significantly improved as a member of the board. FC Bayern shows the expenses for the entire board in its balance sheet.

According to the annual report, the total remuneration of the Management Board for the 2021/22 financial year amounted to EUR 10.29 million.

Hainer confirmed the talks to SPORT BILD: “I was in contact with Oliver several times after the end of the season, we reached a harmonious agreement on terminating his contract. It was all amicable.”

The president finds words of praise for the man, who was not only chairman of the board for around 23 months, but also a player at FC Bayern for 14 years: “Oliver is and will remain a Bayern legend. It was therefore important to us to regulate everything fairly together. He will always be part of the FC Bayern family.”

After his departure, Kahn was initially upset, writing to the team on Twitter: “I would like to celebrate with you, but unfortunately I cannot be with you today because the club has forbidden me.” He later explained: ” When everything has cooled down, we will sit down and talk about everything calmly.”

That has now happened.

It is said in the industry that Kahn could imagine returning to the football business. Not in the front row, but possibly as an investor in a club, as a partner. Kahn himself did not want to comment on his plans.
