Oliver Bearman Shines in Ferrari Debut at Saudi Arabian GP, Ranking 7th with Youngest Debut in Prancing Horse History

At Ferrari there is a new shining star, that of Oliver Bearman. The young Ferrari driver enjoys the excellent performance in the Saudi Arabian GP, a seventh place of great importance also for his career. Suddenly called into question, he responded presently and indeed was able to fully seize the opportunity. The compliments came from everyone, now the goal is to remain humble.

Joy

A debut to remember for Oliver Bearman driving a Ferrari in an official F1 GP. Seventh place in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia fills the hearts of all Cavallino fans who have been dreaming of the birth of a talent in the Scuderia for too long now. A weekend to remember for the boy from Chelmsford who with his 18 years and 305 days is from today also the youngest debutant in a Prancing Horse single-seater but not only that, together with teammate Charles Leclerc they are in fact in history as the youngest couple ever with its 22 years and 224 days on average. At the same time, the Englishman and the Monegasque together formed a pair of drivers directly arriving in F1 from the Ferrari Academy.

The esteem of the circus

Bearman received many messages of esteem and congratulations at the end of the race, for example Lando Norris shared the following message on social media: “Great job on your first race“. Max Verstappen also had words of praise towards him, practically the entire F1 circus has realized that that boy who got into a car that isn’t his is going very fast. And among drivers with a certain amount of experience, the talent is immediately noticeable, right from the first laps on the track.

All to be underlined in the total humility of the young Oliver who declared to Sky Sport: “It was tough, but I got through it! I will never forget this weekend. Thanks to the whole team for their support and for giving me the chance to race“.

The compliments came from teammate Charles Leclerc who spared no favorable words. From the official F1 portal he highlighted the fact that his points debut was probably just the beginning of a longer career in Formula 1.”Extremely impressive” is the comment that encapsulates all the sensations of the Monegasque who can be seen in him at the beginning of his journey among the professionals. What particularly struck him was the Briton’s calmness in getting into the car and doing what he wanted.

What a thrill to run my first Formula 1 race with Scuderia Ferrari! Obviously it was physically demanding, especially at the end, when I had Lando (Norris) and Lewis (Hamilton) behind me on Soft tyres. I always had to push hard to maintain the lead while always staying focused and constantly looking in the mirrors: a truly memorable experience.

It’s a shame that the Safety Car came in so early, as I felt comfortable on the Softs, but obviously it was the right choice to come back in and I’m very happy with the result. I’m happy to have maximized the potential available to me, I had a lot of fun on the track and I will never forget this weekend. Thanks to the whole team for the support and for the opportunity to compete in red”the words of the young talent in the Scuderia.

We didn’t expect anything from him given the timing with which we put him in the car. And he, on the other hand, managed these two days in an extraordinary way, almost as if he were a veteran. He had no problems at the start and at the pit stop, phases which were completely new for him; he was always calm and precise in his feedback on the radio and gradually became familiar with the car to the point that in the final part of the race he managed to keep two aces at bay in Lando (Norris) and Lewis (Hamilton). Now we know that we can count on a reserve driver ready to spring into action if needed” the words of satisfaction from Fred Vasseur.

Sainz’s return

Despite everything, the Ferrari team hopes that Carlos Sainz will be able to race in Australia in two weeks. The Spaniard is already recovering from surgery for appendicitis. The fans of the Red team, however, are already dreaming of Oliver Bearman’s further involvement in the next GP, waiting to have Sainz back in full form, a driver who in the end experiences a season separated at home but who is concretely the only one who since last year gave important points to the cause.

Formula 1 now stops and the engines will restart Friday 22 March for free practice for the Australian Grand Prixat Albert Park in Melbourne, the scene of the third race of the 2024 world season. Ferrari is second in the constructors’ standings, 38 points behind Red Bull, while Leclerc is third in the drivers’ standings with 28 points.
