Latvian champion “Olimp” / “Venta 2002” closed the third round of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) Continental Cup on Sunday. Olimp / Venta 2002 acknowledged the superiority of the local Pirates team in the third game of the tournament in Aalborg with 2: 7 (1: 1, 0: 2, 1: 4). Even before this fight, the people of Riga had lost hope of entering the final tournament.
In the sixth minute, the Latvian champions were nominated by Aleksejs Širokovs, but in the second half of the first period, Charlie Kērti equalized the result. Olimp / Venta 2002 won the second round, winning a group that also included Hungarian, Estonian and Ukrainian teams. In the third stage, eight teams are divided into two subgroups, with the top two entering the final four tournaments. The winner of the tournament will have the right to play in the IIHF Champions League in the 2022/2023 season. The IIHF Continental Cup was not held last season.
