Oligopoly on Czech Food Market: New Competitor Flop Top Stores Making Waves

Experts have recently stated that an oligopoly has formed on the food market in the Czech Republic, which is not positive news at all. This is the reason why we have such expensive food, especially when the members of this association are exclusively foreign companies, especially from neighboring Germany.

It’s growing fast

It has a whole range of negative consequences, and it’s not just about prices. Farmers and domestic food producers who have huge problems getting to Lidl or Kaufland could talk. If they don’t offer exactly the minimum, often below-cost prices, they are often out of luck and the chain will have their onions or apples imported from the other side of the planet. And then he will talk about how he behaves sustainably.

Everyone is therefore looking for new competition for these established foreign chains. Every now and then one appears. For example, the Mere chain of stores from the east is trying it here, and now a domestic player, from whom no one expected it, is also taking off in a big way.

These are Flop Top stores from the until recently dying Flosman chain of smaller stores. Now, however, everything is changing, as new investors have recently joined the company and are opening one new store after another. They also take over stores from competitors such as the bankrupt Enapo. And last but not least, they renovate the existing ones to make them look modern.

You can shop at any time

These shops are often in smaller towns, but are gradually expanding into larger ones as well. At the same time, they offer very high quality services and often more than competitive prices.

A huge advantage of Flop Top stores is the focus on local and often hyperlocal products. In addition to the fact that the shops buy from local producers, they are able to sell truly local specialties from the given location, even in one of them. In short, this company wants local breeders, growers and producers to thrive.

At the same time, this chain of stores also brings a huge novelty to the Czech Republic. It gradually opens chains 24 hours a day. You simply don’t have to pay attention to the opening hours anymore, but thanks to the mobile application you can also shop outside of them. And the Czechs are said to be making massive use of it, and at night it is not mostly alcohol that is bought, as it might seem, but common things such as pastries or vegetables.
