Olga Carmona received a very sad message on Sunday shortly after winning the world title with Spain. The left back, who scored the only goal in the final against England, was told that her father had died.
“The RFEF deeply regrets to report the death of Olga Carmona’s father. The football star heard the sad news after the World Cup final,” the Spanish Football Federation RFEF reported on Sunday. X (formerly Twitter).
“We extend our deepest sympathy to Olga and her family in a moment of deep sorrow. We love you Olga. You are the history of Spanish football.”
Earlier in the day, 23-year-old Carmona was crowned match winner in the 1-0 World Cup final against England. The Spanish scored after half an hour of play in Sydney with a nice shot.
The Spanish football players conquered the world title for the first time. In the quarterfinals they were too strong for the Netherlands (2-1) via extra time.
Due to the defeat of England, national coach Sarina Wiegman missed out on the world title. A year ago, the Dutch led her team to the European title.
