Oleksandr Usyk, 37, missed his daughter’s birth.

He instead chose to train – before the super fight, which was postponed.

– I should have been with my wife, says the boxing star.

This weekend it became clear that the hyped title match between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will be postponed. The reason was that champion Fury cracked his eyebrow in training.

The superstars were supposed to meet on February 17, but the fight had to be moved to May 18.

Now Usyk is remorseful.

“Could hear her first scream”

At a press conference, the Ukrainian says that he opted out of his daughter’s birth during the preparations this winter.

– I have sacrificed a lot for this fight. I was not with my wife when she gave birth to our daughter. I should have been there, at the hospital. Maybe not right next to her, but at least in the corridor, where I could hear my new daughter’s first scream, he says.

However, Usyk took the weekend’s announcement in stride.

– I am still happy. Things like this happen. Now I travel to Ukraine and see my daughters and my wife. I get to church and pray. Then I rest a bit and return to the training camp.
