This fall, all new iPhone models will be equipped with an OLED screen. That makes the choice easier, but not everyone is happy. A frequently heard advantage of OLED is that blacks are really black, but according to some YouTube videos that is not the case.

‘OLED screen not black enough’
Previously, there were complaints that screens of the iPhone 12-serie sometimes a bit yellow seem to have been adjusted. This problem has also occurred in previous years and usually disappeared after a while. And if not, you can always own the adjust the color tone a bit. The black color of a YOU AREscreen cannot be adjusted with sliders in the iOS-settings. Bee OLED screens the pixels can really be turned off, making black really black. Because a color screen is one of the biggest power guzzlers, an OLED screen is also a lot more energy efficient. With LCD screens, the lighting is always active.
In a completely darkened room, you should see a completely black screen when you use a YOU AREphone. However, several users report that their screen is not deep black but rather tends to gray (although we think it looks more green in the photo). On the Apple Support-forum and there are a lot of complaints on Reddit.
Do you put the iPhone 12 next to an older device such as the iPhone XS, then the black level should be the same, but that turns out not to be the case. It is not yet entirely clear why. Some people think it has to do with last summer when the suppliers of Apple faced quality issues in the production of OLED screens. It would occur with all models, both ordinary ones iPhone 12 (mini) as the Pro models.
