Jakarta –
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back under pressure. He also apologized for smiling after the defeat to Watford.
The match against Watford, which was held after the international break, was originally intended to be used as a stronghold for the Red Devils as a moment of awakening after unsatisfactory results.
Ahead of the match against Watford, Solskjaer also emphasized that there would be a reaction, after Manchester United’s defeat in the Manchester derby against Manchester City just before the international break.
At Watford headquarters, Saturday (20/11), the reaction that emerged actually disappointed the Red Devils supporters. Ole’s squad lost 1-4 to Watford after an extraordinary disappointing performance.
Man United’s only consolation goal against the promoted side came from Donny van de Beek, a player that Solskjaer has consistently ruled out. Van de Beek scored five minutes after coming on as a substitute in the second half and had time to keep the Red Devils’ hopes of a comeback – because his goal at that time made the score 1-2.
The defeat against Watford made speculation over Solskjaer’s future blowing even more. The pressure must have been felt right by the former Man United super-sub.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Solskjaer even apologized for smiling and chuckling when asked by Geoff Shreeves what put United’s players in the wrong frame of mind against Watford.
“Sorry for smiling, but that’s how people are. I suspect you were surprised because these players are good, top players, top professionals,” Ole told Sky Sports.
“Obviously when things aren’t good for you, it’s difficult to play psychologically like that. In the second half, we played amazingly carefree, scored a lot… well, scored one good goal, created a lot of chances. But of course it wasn’t. enough.”
