An old-timer meeting was held in the parking lot of the Pniël residential care center on Saturday, especially for the residents. This allowed them to spot vehicles from their own early years. They also got to choose their favorite classic car. The owner then received a bucket and some cleaning material from the residential care center to further cherish his pearl.

Before the corona crisis, old-timers also collected a few times at the Pniël residential care center, which was always very successful with the residents. It was always a nostalgic experience for them. But because it had been quiet for a while due to corona, the cooperating old-timer club could only get three old-timers on site. Don’t worry, one call on Facebook from Pniël was enough to immediately get a procession of old-timers in Pulderbos. Each car was given a number and the residents could choose their favourite.

Ann Deprez and Marco Gerrits had come from Gierle with their blue Minerva from 1952. “That’s from the gendarmerie!”, a resident immediately remarked. Even the siren and blue flashing light are still marching.

Peggy Kouwenbergh from Wuustwezel had success with her 1968 Volkswagen Beetle. “I was actually looking for a Beetle from my birth year 1972. But then this bordeaux Beetle crossed my path and I immediately fell in love,” says Peggy, who herself had a matching rockabilly dress. wore.

The Jaguar XK 120 type Le Mans from 1949 of Marc Huys from Rijkevorsel was very popular with the old people. “It is completely made of aluminum, because there was a shortage of iron after the war. In the meantime, those aluminum types are more expensive than the others, but then it was out of necessity. The version is birdgrey, the original color”, Marc shows. “Unfortunately, there were many deaths with this car, not only because it drove so fast but also because of the straight steering rod that drilled right into the chest in a collision.”

The oldest old-timer was a Citroën from 1928. Marie-Josée Mariën (85), a resident of Pniël, really liked the 1973 Volvo 1800 from Filip De Feyter and Ann Timmermans from Aartselaar. It’s the same as Roger Moore in The Saint drove. What was Marie-Josée’s first car? “I think a Simca 1000”, her children say, but there was no Simca.
