Oldest German Carpenters’ Association Celebrates 125th Anniversary with Festivities in Freiburg

Freiburg (dpa/lsw) – According to its own information, the oldest German carpenters’ association was founded in the German Empire in 1898 – 125 years later, the anniversary is celebrated publicly in Freiburg. A festival is planned for this Saturday in downtown Freiburg, the Baden Wood Construction Association announced on Thursday in the Black Forest metropolis.

The Association of Baden Master Carpenters was founded in Offenburg in 1898 as the first regional association for the carpentry trade. The timber construction association currently represents around 330 companies. Since young women are also being trained, the carpentry profession is no longer a male domain, the association reported in a statement.

“Wooden construction represents an important pillar on the path to climate neutrality,” wrote the association. According to earlier statements by Agriculture and Forestry Minister Peter Hauk (CDU), the wooded southwest is a pioneer in wooden construction.
