So far, food trucks, i.e. mobile snack stands, have mainly been found at open-air events in Munich, otherwise the city’s special usage guidelines hardly allow them, especially not in the center. The district committee (BA) there would like to change this, but does not want to be too strong for food trolleys and bikes in consideration of the stationary catering.
A majority of the BA accepted a CSU application, insofar as it calls for food trucks to be permitted in principle. However, the majority of the BA rejected attempts at the City Council with the aim of temporarily reserving parking spaces for them by road traffic regulations, as well as the demand for immediate approval and active location search. Both supporters and opponents of the application cited the pandemic situation. Food trucks could dig the battered restaurateurs and at the same time use their infrastructure, such as the toilets, pointed out Wolfgang Püschel (SPD). The operators, often young start-up entrepreneurs, suffered particularly from the pandemic because they could no longer stop at open-air events, Bernhard Wittek (CSU) explained his concern.
