“The accent is talking about your country, while talking about something else” said the poet one day. At a time when the fires of the picrocholine war between the supporters of chocolatine and those of pain au chocolat are hardly extinguished, the authors of the comic strip Les vieux Fourneaux (comic bookstore prize in 2014 and the Cultura prize of the festival of Angoulême in 2015), Wilfrid Lupano and Paul Cauuet, have fun with Agen’s accent in the last opus of their series, L’oreille bouchée, published by Dargaud on November 6 (this is Volume 6).
Could this be the old rivalry between Agen and Toulouse of which the designer Paul Caueet is a native (didn’t Nougaro sing in Toulouse that “torrents of pebbles roll in your accent”?) Or a nod to the Marmandais Christophe Duthuron who adapted Les Vieux Fourneaux in 2018 with Eddy Mitchel, Roland Giraud and Pierre Richard?
In L’Oreille bouchée, the three old friends, comic book heroes, the septuagenarians Antoine, Emile and Pierrot take a journey of the initiatory genre in Guyana along the Maroni river and in the sweaty sweltering of the Amazon forest. “An adventure with ecological accents in the cradle of yellow gold …” writes Dargaud. But it is also a question of the accent of Agen with an Indian Wayana who, we learn, learned French with the accent of the South-West in contact with a teacher from Agen. And it gives: “The mating, I eat a paing in raising”. Funny heing? Your turn to judge…
