NEW YORK CITY – An old immigrant man China was in a coma in a hospital at United States of America (USA) after being brutally attacked on East Harlem Street, New York. The perpetrator beat and stamped on the 61-year-old man’s head until it was badly injured.

Yao Pan Ma was attacked while collecting used bottles on East Harlem Street. The victim’s wife, on Sunday, said she was now afraid that her husband would not survive.

“I felt very insecure and I was very worried that my husband would not succeed,” said the victim’s wife, Baozhen Chen, in tears.

“I want the police to arrest this person as quickly as possible,” he was quoted as saying NY Daily News, Monday (26/4/2021).

The attack occurred while the victim was walking in a trolley full of recyclables on Third Ave last Friday night. Suddenly someone came and threw him on the ground and then stomped on his head at least half a dozen times around 9:00 p.m.

The horrific attack was caught on CCTV. Videos shared by the police showed the attacker stepping on the victim’s head about half a dozen times before attacking further.

A witness told NY Daily News that the victim was ambushed from behind.

The victim is still in a medically induced coma, and is on a ventilator, in the intensive care unit of Harlem Hospital. It is not clear whether he will survive. Her face was badly bruised too.

“She is a good person. He’s not the problem type, “said Chen, 57, who lives with her husband at NYCHA’s Wagner Houses a few blocks from where she was attacked.

“I’m very angry,” he said again.

According to Chen, her husband lost his job at a Chinatown restaurant last year after the COVID-19 pandemic hit New York. Since then, the victim worked collecting bottles in September to help make ends meet.

“My husband will call me every day to make sure I know he’s coming home safely. But that night he didn’t call me, so I was worried, “said Chen, who works as a health care worker.
