The mourning hall on the listed Old Cemetery has been newly renovated. A new ceiling improves the acoustics.

The mourning hall on the listed old cemetery in Offenbach has been newly renovated, the administration announced.

The hall is “now again the jewel that it has always been structurally and creatively,” says Peter Freier (CDU), mayor and responsible department head. Thanks to the good structural substance of the building, ESO’s own operations and the cemetery administration managed to improve the building significantly both visually and energetically with comparatively little resources. The old cemetery was established in 1832. In 1888 a half-open building, then still called a morgue, was built, which was converted into a mourning hall around the turn of the century. The building was last renovated in the 1960s, says Gabriele Schreiber, head of the municipal cemeteries. Now, above all, the dark wood paneling that was attached at the time has been removed. Instead, the room was painted light. The acoustics are now also better thanks to a new ceiling. The ESO company of the city of Offenbach invested almost 100,000 euros in the renovation of the mourning hall. jon
