Old books take the Alameda: poetry for tourism

In my city, public space is usually occupied by chairs and tables in what we previously thought were streets without knowing that they are terraces. I presume, from what one reads and is told, that this urban transformation is a very widespread phenomenon in the country – but I sense that the situation in my city is very striking because foreigners and nationals visit us every day to take an interest in what is happening Here, I hope you’ll excuse my nonsense. In short, accustomed to avoiding tables in the middle of the afternoon where thirsty foreigners have a few beers at the time I look for a coffee, I have had a phenomenal surprise when I discovered that an Old Book Fair has slipped into a main artery . After greeting some booksellers friends, I discover that this marvel has been set up almost at night and with a bit of treachery: they intend to sell books, which is always suspicious. Please, if someone reads this, spread the word, because selling old books is not enough to pay for advertising. The booths open every day until March 19 in Malaga’s Alameda Principal, which looks splendid with boxes and boxes of poetry books, novels of all kinds and comics like those that used to be sold in kiosks, those of which there are few left in my city. On my first visits, which have been planted there for a week now, I have caught a Bertrand Russell, an FA Hayek and even a César Gónzalez-Ruano from Madrid, as well as some good comics. And the best thing is that I have not been alone in these searches, because to my surprise there were many curious people who were left standing before such a wonder: books on the street!
