Old AMD chips excluded from ‘Sync Close’ security vulnerability – Tech42

AMD has started distributing patches for the recently discovered ‘Sinkclose’ security vulnerability to some processors. However, as reported by Tom’s Hardware, the Ryzen 1000, 2000, 3000 series, and the Threadripper 1000 and 2000 series will not receive the patch. The vulnerability is said to affect most AMD processors from 2006 onwards. AMD described it as “an older product whose software support period has expired” and said it would provide patches for the latest models and embedded processors. The Sinkclose vulnerability poses a greater threat to governments and large organizations than to ordinary users, and if exploited, could execute code in system administration mode.
