Linn Svahn injured her shoulder in a fall during a World Cup competition in February.
The injury was more serious than the medical team feared and in early September Linn Svahn underwent surgery, which means that she misses both a large part of the training period and competitions.
The season includes the Olympics, which is the big goal for cross-country skiers. If she manages to get well and fully recovered for the Olympics, no one knows.
– From experience, I choose not to speculate in future competitions, it is far too difficult to make a sensible forecast about it. My role in this is that Linn gets optimal conditions for rehabilitation as soon as possible, says “Pliggen” Andersson.
During the next week Linn Svahn will be told how to proceed.
– The first time is just about healing the wound after the operation, she has been in silence for three weeks. During the journey, we get to evaluate when it’s time for her to start training and competing. Now it is important to be very careful in the rehabilitation work with Linn and then we will see how everything develops.
After the operation, Linn Svahn said in a press release that she was both tired and worn out.
– I am determined that I will fight back and at the same time prepared for the fact that it may take time, says Svahn.
Andersson has taken on the responsibility for making an incorrect assessment of Linn Svahn’s injury.
– There I have the ultimate responsibility and I should have acted differently earlier.
He does not see the need for any changes in the structure of the medical team.
– I think we are on the right track and we have a good medical organization right now. This was an individual case and it did not go well. I can not see that it is a pattern, I interpret it for the time being as an individual event. We understand what went wrong and of course learn from it.
William Poromaa and Jonna Sundling, who were forced to stay at home due to colds, are also missing from the national team’s camp in Font Romeu in the south of France.
Charlotte Kalla is on site but has contracted a stomach ache and been isolated in his room.
– She felt her stomach on Wednesday and it is probably something she has ingested through the food. We do not know, she was immediately isolated. It does not look like she has a stomach ache, but rather something she has eaten, says national team manager Anders Byström.
Now Kalla is forced to rest from hard training for a couple of days.
– There will be a bit of leaching when you get a thing like this, it is possible that we can let her rest before we start again.
