If you think of skyscrapers in the United States, you think of New York. Or Chicago. Or maybe Los Angeles?… But surely you don’t think about Oklahoma City, the city that could house the new tallest skyscraper in the country.
Real estate development company Matteson Capital and architecture firm AO are asking Oklahoma City for permission to raise the height of one of the towers in the development of the already approved project called The Boardwalk at Bricktown. If approved, the new height would make the building the tallest in the United States and the current fifth tallest in the world.
The 1,907-foot-tall structure was proposed for the city of Oklahoma City and will increase the height of one of the towers in the already permitted development known as The Boardwalk at Bricktown. If approved, the structure will become the tallest building in the United States.

The development, the companies said in a news release, has three towers, each 345 feet (105 meters) tall, and a fourth tower, known as Legends Tower, rising to 1,907 feet (581 meters). The skyscraper would create a “stunning silhouette on the Oklahoma City skyline,” they said.
The symbolic height honors the year Oklahoma was admitted as the 46th state of the United States.
Spanning approximately 5 million square feet, the project would have a hotel, affordable and luxury condominiums, and a shopping center with restaurants, shops and “stunning views of the city.” The complex would also include a lagoon seeking to create an “urban oasis.” The area already has attractions such as the train station, cinema and a stadium.
“We believe this development will be an iconic destination for the city, further driving diversification of the growing economy, attracting investment, business and jobs,” said Scot Matteson, CEO of the development company.
But can a city with Oklahoma’s profile accommodate a building of that magnitude? Experts indicate that finding financing for this type of project can be one of the biggest obstacles.
“It remains to be seen if the tallest tower in the United States (…) in Oklahoma is just a publicity stunt or if the team will be able to follow through with their dream,” wrote the World-Architects website, a network of architects and professionals. of the construction. The project is far from a closed deal, and there are those who doubt it can be carried out in a city like Oklahoma.
Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt said in a statement to CNN: “In my opinion, private developers often announce plans and some of those plans are carried out, and some are not.”
