Jakarta –
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) revealed that there was a fraudulent method of wrong transfer. If you can transfer funds from someone you don’t know, it could just be a new form of deception.
“Have you ever received a fund transfer from an unknown person? It could be a new form of deception,” wrote the OJK upload on the official Instagram, Friday (12/1/2024).
This method is usually used by perpetrators of illegal online loans (pinjol) to ensnare victims. Usually there is a party who contacts claiming to have made a wrong transfer, then directs the recipient to make a reverse transfer and asks the recipient to download an application or click on the link provided to submit proof of transfer.
If you are a victim of wrong transfer fraud, don’t panic. There are several things you need to do.
First of all do not use the transferred funds. Collect evidence of ‘mistransfers’ such as screenshot from cell phone to message WhatsApp to report to the police.
Report it to the police and ask for a letter of receipt of the report from the police. Then report it to the bank and request a fund hold (not account blocking) for the transfer of funds from this person.
“Funds will be held until it is clear who the responsible party is,” explained the OJK.
If you are contacted or terrorized by a debt collector, there is no need to worry. Just inform that you have not used the funds and have never applied for a loan.
“Ignore the debt collector’s calls. Block them if necessary,” he said.
