Oilers triumph with Draisaitl’s 100th point achieved

Derek Ryan, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Connor McDavid and Nick Bjugstad netted the other winners. Ryan hit the target with the game’s first shot in the third minute of play.

With five wins in their last seven games, the Oilers moved into third place in the Pacific Division.

Tim Stutzle (twice) and Brady Tkachuk replied for the Senators, beaten in their last three games.

Both teams are on the schedule again on Thursday: the Oilers will host Dallas, while the Senators will host the Avalanche.

The Jets beaten by the Hurricanes

Jesperi Kotkaniemi had two goals and an assist to help the Hurricanes beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-3 on Tuesday in Carolina.

Kotkaniemi completed his double into an empty net with just four seconds left on the clock.

Jack Drury, Jaccob Slavin and Brady Skjei were the other scorers for the Hurricanes, who had lost their last two games.

Frederik Andersen stopped 21 shots. Dylan DeMelo, Nikolaj Ehlers and Nino Niederreiter fought back for the Jets, while David Rittich made 20 saves.

The Jets host the Boston Bruins on Thursday, while the Hurricanes return to action Friday against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

The Islanders halted

In Los Angeles, the Kings took control with four goals in 10:20 of the second period on Tuesday, racing to a 5-2 win against the New York Islanders.

Blake Lizotte started the flurry by creating the tie 1-1, at 1:54. After power-play goals from Drew Doughty and Alex Iafallo a minute apart, Trevor Moore completed the push with his eighth goal this season at 12:14.

Quinton Byfield added an empty net goal. Joonas Korpisalo made 26 saves for the Kings, who have lost only once in their last seven meetings.

Heavy loss for the Hurricanes

The Hurricanes have announced that forward Andrei Svechnikov will miss the remainder of the schedule and the entire playoffs with a ligament tear in his right knee.

The team have indicated that Svechnikov will need surgery. He was injured Saturday in a 4-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Hurricanes are hopeful the 22-year-old Russian will make a full recovery from the knee injury.

It’s a blow for the Hurricanes, who are aiming for top honors despite a tough run in the Eastern Conference. Svechnikov is tied for 2nd on his team with 55 points, and 3rd with 23 goals.

The Hurricanes have already lost the services of forward Max Pacioretty in the long term. He played only five games this season before re-injuring his right Achilles tendon.
