The Oilers’ season ended after 6:52 of play in the third overtime period, when Kyle Connor stood alone in front of goaltender Mike Smith and beat him.
It was a third straight overtime win for the Jets, who had beaten the Oilers in the fourth period on Friday and Sunday.
After Connor McDavid made a turnaround in the enemy zone, the puck found the blade of Connor’s stick, which had slipped behind the defenders. The Jets forward unleashed an excellent wrist shot that stole goalie Mike Smith’s vigilance between his right arm and body.
The Jets won the all-Canadian four-game series and advance to the second playoff round for the first time since 2018.
Mark Scheifele hit the target twice for the Jets, who swept away streak honors for the first time since returning to Winnipeg.
Mason Appleton scored a goal in the victory. Blake Wheeler and Josh Morrissey both had two goals for the Manitoba squad.
Connor Hellebuyck stopped 37 pucks in front of the Jets’ net.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who are swept away for the first time since 1999.
The Jets eliminated the Oilers in four games.

McDavid and Alex Chiasson each scored one goal while Leon Draisaitl was complicit in their success. Mike Smith made 39 saves for the Oilers.
The Oilers had won all six NHL playoffs against the Jets’ first draft, before they moved to Arizona.
One hour on the ice
Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse was 62:07 on the ice. The record for the most time on the ice in a game belongs to Seth Jones of the Columbus Blue Jackets. He had played 65:06, in a game that ended in the fifth overtime period.
Josh Morrissey was the Jets’ most used player, appearing at 41:54.
The Jets are now awaiting the winner of the series between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs lead this 2-1 confrontation by virtue of a 2-1 win last night at the Bell Center.
