The publication, citing sources, writes that European companies may start deliveries of oil from Venezuela in July to replace Russian oil.
According to one of them, these will be small volumes of oil, so the impact on world prices will be modest. But Washington’s green light to resume long-frozen Venezuelan oil flows to Europe could send a symbolic signal to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
It is also reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden hopes that Venezuelan oil will help Europe reduce dependence on Russia and redirect part of the supplies from China.
“Another goal is to persuade Maduro to resume political negotiations with the Venezuelan opposition,” Reuters notes.
