Frogn municipality reports an oil spill that is “larger than normal” from the wreck of the German warship Blücher in the Oslo Fjord.
Blücher sank after being hit by cannon fire and torpedoes from, among others, Oscarsborg fortress on the night of 9 April 1940.
For many years, there have been regular oil spills from the wreck, which is located at Askholmene, north of Drøbaksundet in the Oslo Fjord.
Frogn municipality writes on Facebook that the emissions reported on Thursday afternoon are greater than normal.
“The fire service is monitoring the situation closely and is also preparing for a possible action to collect oil if the emissions increase in scale. The Norwegian Coastal Administration has been notified.”
The municipality asks people who observe oil spills along the coastline to report it to the Follo fire brigade on tel. 64 85 10 00. It is not necessary to report oil on the sea.
