Oil prices rose by about 3% during the day on Wednesday. There are supply concerns in the market as OPEC+ announced production cuts and US inventories fell more than analysts expected.

Oil prices rose about 3 percent on Wednesday after U.S. crude stockpiles fell more than expected, fueling supply concerns amid OPEC+ production cuts.

Brent crude oil futures exceeded $97 a barrel, later climbing $2.55 to $96.51 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures rose $3.16 to $93.54.

Both benchmarks reached the highest level this year in intraday transactions.

U.S. crude inventories fell by 2.2 million barrels last week to 416.3 million barrels, government data showed, compared with analysts’ expectations in a Reuters poll for a drop of 320,000 barrels.

Crude inventories at Cushing, Oklahoma, the storage hub and delivery point for U.S. crude futures, fell 943,000 barrels on the week to just under 22 million barrels, the lowest level since July 2022, the data show.

Expensive at the pump, also expected in Romania

In this context, further price increases at the pump are expected in Romania as well. Already, the prices of petrol and diesel have gone up. On Monday, September 25, for example, the average price for a liter of standard diesel was 7.74 lei, while a liter of the cheapest gasoline variety was sold, on average, for 7.37 lei.

Diesel also reached this maximum, without exceeding it, in January 2023. When it comes to gasoline, the last time this fuel was sold at a price similar to its current price was in August 2022. Compared to last month, the price average price of a liter of gasoline increased by 2.1%, which means that a full tank (50 liters) costs 7.5 lei more today than 30 days ago.

In the case of diesel, the average price of a liter increased by 4%, which means that a full tank (50 liters) costs 15 lei more today.
