Olive oil has now become more affordable for the Greek consumer with the increase in its price exceeding 60%. In Greece in March, on an annual basis, consumers paid 67.2% more expensive olive oil, following successive increases for several months.
Olive oil prices have now surpassed even the most pessimistic forecasts. In supermarkets, the extra virgin reaches 16.47 euros per liter and the 1.5 liter package is 24.71 euros.
The picture is similar for larger packages which are generally more economical than single bottles. Extra virgin of the Koroneiki variety is at 14.61 euros per liter and 4, at 58.45 euros per liter, according to Mega.
The price of extra virgin olive oil is “galloping”.
- 2023: €43/5 litres. Price per liter: €8.60
- 2024: €69.99/5 liters. Price per liter: €13.99
Increase: 62.67%
In other olive oil, the price in a 5 liter package is always:
- 2022: €34.50 (5 liters)
- 2023: €53 (5 liters)
- 2024: €88.50 (5 liters)
Increase: 156.5%
However, it causes a feeling that Greek olive oil sometimes costs cheaper than our country abroad.
