Ohio man arrested at Times Square station with semi-automatic weapon, ammunition and gas mask: Authorities – NBC 62

An Ohio teenager was arrested Friday after the public was alarmed to see him carrying an AK-47 rifle in the middle of Times Square. The 18-year-old was found ammunition and what appears to be a gas mask.

The young man, identified by multiple law enforcement sources as Saadiq Teague, was detained by officers at the Times Square subway station around 12:45 p.m. near the A / C / E line, officials said.

NYPD officers were patrolling the station when they spotted Teague pulling the unloaded gun from her bag and placing it on the ground. Officers approached and questioned him before detaining him, officers said.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea tweeted a photo of the firearm that police found next to the suspect. Teague was charged with four counts of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Investigators are trying to determine why the young man was at a neural point in New York City and what his intentions were.

Senior law enforcement officials said Teague was visiting the city with a friend, who came to the station to find out why he was arrested.

When searching the hotel room where the teenager was staying, police found marijuana and a bong (device to inhale), police sources said.

Police are also investigating whether Teague’s gas mask is actually a device that can be attached to the bong to increase the effect when smoking.

Officials reported that Teague stated that the weapon is legally registered in his name in Ohio.

Three senior law enforcement officials said the NYPD believes Teague is the son of a man who was killed in a police chase that ended in a March shooting in Ohio. Investigators are seeking the collaboration of Ohio authorities to determine why Teague traveled to town with the rifle and ammunition.
