In the American state of Ohio, two founders of a clinic have been convicted of falsely diagnosing patients with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other conditions, AP reports.

It concerns the former director of a clinic in Toledo and her husband who is an ENT specialist. The couple started the clinic in 2014 and were accused of false diagnoses by dozens of patients.

Former director Sherry-Ann Jenkins (61) was sentenced to six years in prison yesterday. According to the US Department of Justice, the former director was not trained to provide medical care and was not licensed to do so. Her husband Oliver Jenkins (59) received a prison sentence of 41 months. He hardly interfered with the clinic and did not have the right papers to make such diagnoses.

Man signed as referring doctor

Sherry-Ann falsely posed as a doctor and billed patients for unnecessary treatments, such as memory exercises and remedies such as coconut oil to improve memory. Her husband signed up for these treatments as the referring doctor. A patient falsely diagnosed with Alzheimer’s was 21 years old.

Since 2017, multiple lawsuits have been filed against Sherry-Ann by more than sixty people. Some patients underwent treatments for months thinking they were terminally ill.

According to AP, a patient committed suicide. There were also patients who had quit their jobs or were making one last long trip.
