O’Higgins Region prepares to have a Fiestas Patrias without situations to regret – 2024-09-05 08:24:40

The 2024 Fiestas Patrias are shaping up to be a period of high tourist activity, vehicular movement and a significant increase in the use of key infrastructure such as roads, all framed in what has been called “Fiestas Patrias XXL”, due to the extensive number of days it will cover. Given this scenario, the presidential delegate, Fabio López, began the month of September with a series of meetings with different public and private services, for exhaustive coordination.

“We are beginning the coordination to have everything planned for an extra-long weekend, since for many it will practically be a week of celebration and it is essential to look at the issues of road safety and public safety, but also to coordinate a series of actions that not only deal with the possible traffic congestion, which will surely occur during the outing of many people who will travel on our roads. This coordination is also focused on planning inspections through Senda against drug use, the Ministry of Transport, Health, the Zero Tolerance Plan of the Ministry of Women, among others,” said the delegate.

Regarding the inspections, the regional secretary of Transport, Flavia González, explained that “we are coordinating with the highway, since we have organized a series of activities scheduled between September 9 and 16, which basically constitute awareness-raising for road users mainly, with accident simulations; in addition, we have scheduled several strategic inspection points, which are part of those carried out throughout the year, but which are now reinforced due to the length of the celebration. This reinforcement will have the support of both police officers, Transport inspectors and also public security from the municipalities, who join together for a coordinated and joint work in view of the increase in flow and movement that we will have throughout the region and throughout the country.”

Regarding security, the prefect of Cachapoal, Nibaldo Sánchez, explained from Carabineros that “we have held this first meeting with the authorities, reviewing and coordinating the work that we will do. We want the community to travel with peace of mind and enjoy themselves. Carabineros and all the public bodies that have been summoned are looking at the general aspects to be prepared for this long weekend, giving the peace of mind that we will be stationed on the different routes, we will be at civic events as well, in the ramadas, with a work of prevention and peace of mind for all our neighbors. Our call is to take care of yourselves, respect traffic signs, drive defensively, and be clear that Carabineros will be 24-7 as always.”

For his part, the regional secretary of Labor and Social Security, Jaime Chamorro, stressed that “we will be carrying out various dissemination actions with the Labor Directorate over the next few days, addressing the non-waivable holiday, which for most workers implies September 18 and 19 as non-waivable holidays. We will visit businesses, for example, on Friday the 13th, disseminating information about how the non-waivability of this day is assumed and how there are alternating days of rest for workers in each staff plant,” Chamorro indicated, adding that “we will monitor compliance with labor regulations in our ramadas and in our fondas, during the Monday and Tuesday prior to September 18.”
