The potato-forming space rock Bennu poses a potential threat to Earth on September 24, 2182. It could then be that the asteroid collides with our planet. The probability is about 1 in 2,700 (0.037 percent).

Although the chances of Bennu hitting Earth are very slim, it remains one of the two most dangerous known asteroids in our solar system, along with another called 1950 DA, according to the US space agency NASA. NASA researchers used data from the space probe OSIRIS-REx in their calculations.
Orbit around the sun
The probe has been investigating Bennu in recent years. The asteroid, which is about half a kilometer across and orbits the sun, is currently 306 million kilometers from Earth. The asteroid can tell scientists something about the origin of our solar system and about the origin of life on Earth.
