Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson making frequent speeches after stepping down as prime minister last September. Not even half, he earned more than £1 million (about 19 billion rupees) for giving these paid speeches.
This is according to official records of British members of parliament, as reported by news agencies AFP extensionThursday (12/15/2022).
Known for his rhetoric, Johnson has addressed bankers in New York, insurance companies in the United States, a CNN-hosted summit in Portugal and other events in India in recent months.
According to an official document published on the parliament website English listing the MPs’ financial interests, the former British leader receives fees ranging from £215,000 to £277,000 (US$267,000 to US$344,000) per speech.
Johnson, 58, left Downing Street after announcing his retirement last July, following a series of scandals that darkened his office Prime Minister. Although he is no longer prime minister, Johnson remains an MP for the ruling Conservative Party.
He’s trying to do return political spectacular after his successor, Liz Truss, resigned and sparked another contest for the Conservative leadership. However, MPs instead backed his former finance minister Rishi Sunak to become British prime minister.
Johnson he hasn’t ruled out an offer to return to the higher job. She said she was “well placed to secure a victory for the Conservatives in 2024” as support for the main opposition Labor Party soared in opinion polls.
