With Megalopolis, legendary director Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather 1 – 3, Apocalypse Now) risks destroying his life’s work. The film would have to gross at least $240 million. But Megalopolis only opened at number 6 in US cinemas.
Is Megalopolis a flop in the cinema?
Shortly after the first weekend in cinemas, it was already clear that Megalopolis started even worse than originally expected. The sci-fi epic, which was somewhat reminiscent of Christopher Nolan’s Inception after the first trailer, only grossed $4 million instead of the predicted $5 million. I’m sorry, what?
Normally it’s not worth mentioning whether a Hollywood blockbuster grosses a million more or less on its opening weekend. How successful is Megalopolis in Germany?
The School of Magical Animals 3 is currently at the top of the cinema charts in this country. If you take a closer look at the other top 5, you will find films like the surprisingly incredibly successful Beetlejuice or the Minions blockbuster Despicable Me 4, but you won’t find Megalopolis.

When can you stream the flop in the cinema at home? A current launch as PVOD (Premium Video on Demand) or on Blu-ray has not yet been determined.
