ÖGB leaves working group for “Early Childhood Education and Care” due to lack of progress

Schumann: “The path we have taken is not expedient.”

Vienna (OTS) In coordination with the relevant trade unions, the ÖGB has decided to leave the working group for “Early Childhood Education and Care” set up by the Ministry of Education due to a lack of progress. “Questions are discussed here, the answers to which the ÖGB, together with the other social partners, has been providing for years,” explains Korinna Schumann, ÖGB Vice President and women’s chairwoman.

“What we urgently need is a training offensive for professions in elementary education and better working conditions and not what is happening in the working group,” says the ÖGB Vice President. This project once again made it clear that the data on elementary education is inadequate.

Despite leaving the working group, the ÖGB emphasizes that it will continue to seek dialogue with the other social partners and decision-makers in order to achieve improvements in elementary education. “The topic is very important to us. Only the path that is being taken here is not expedient for us,” concluded Schumann.
