SANTO DOMINGO.- Official legislators justified the more than 1.4 billion dollars approved this Wednesday between both chambers of the National Congress for the construction of State works, improving energy efficiency and for disaster risk management.
However, for the opposition, the loans are nothing more than a “deadly blow” for the Dominican people, since they understand that these resources are not used for the benefit of the population.
To a part of the opposition in the National Congress it does not seem fair that four days after a national catastrophe that left at least 30 dead and thousands of homes affected in the country, The ruling party decided to bring million-dollar loans before the chamber, which would increase the public debt.
The ruling party, who recalled that the approved loans are included in the national budget, assure that these resources are managed in a transparent manner and justify their approval.
The Chamber of Deputies approved this Tuesday six loans for an amount greater than 1.2 billion dollars to be used to finance construction in the Santo Domingo Metro and the Montegrande Dam, as well as a program to improve energy efficiency, this without the support of the main opposition political forces.
In the case of the 6 loans that were approved by the Chamber of Deputies, they must go to the Senate of the Republic to be sanctioned.
