The Ukrainian Football Association has decided to submit a request to the International Game Federation “FIFA” to exclude the Iranian national team from the 2022 World Cup, which will start in Qatar on November 20.
A Ukrainian Football Association statement confirmed Monday that the Executive Committee wanted the Iranian national team to be excluded from the tournament “due to Iran’s possible involvement in the Russian-Ukrainian war.”
The Russian national team was banned from international tournaments by FIFA and the European Football Association “UEFA”, at a time when the Ukrainian team was eliminated from the qualifying round for the World Cup and lost to the team of Wales.
In the statement of the Ukrainian Football Association it is stated that the Executive Committee has decided to present to FIFA a request for the exclusion of Iran from the World Cup, without referring to the possibility of replacing him with the Ukrainian national team at the World Cup.
The statement indicated: Taking into account media information about systematic human rights violations in Iran, which could violate the principles and standards of the FIFA Statute, as well as the UN Security Council Resolution on the imposition of sanctions against Iran and the possible involvement of Iran in the current war, we have decided to turn to FIFA to consider the exclusion of the Iranian national team from the 2022 World Cup.
