The Ministry of Health and Population circulated to all hospitals and health directorates a new definition for diagnosing suspected and infected cases of the emerging corona virus, dividing them into suspected, probable, and confirmed cases.
The General Department of Epidemiology and Surveillance at the Ministry of Health stated, in a circular issued today, Thursday, that the suspected case is “any person who suffers from one or more of the following symptoms: severe respiratory symptoms, a high temperature, a sudden loss of the sense of smell and taste, with or without Any of the symptoms accompanying and not specific to a specific disease, or a patient who is reserved for severe acute respiratory diseases, who suffers from a high temperature of more than 38 degrees, and a cough, with no other causes during the last 10 days from the date of the onset of symptoms.
As for the possible cases, they are “a suspected case with any of the following circumstances within 14 days before the symptoms appear: direct contact with a possible or laboratory-confirmed case with a PCR swab with the Coronavirus, or epidemiologically linked to a cluster of suspected cases with acute respiratory symptoms and a case has been confirmed among them. By PCR, or a worker or frequent visitor at places of health care provision that has been reported of confirmed cases of emerging corona infection, or contacts of a death who was suffering from acute respiratory symptoms before death.
According to the publication, the probable case includes “any suspected case for which the following diagnostic characteristics apply .. The presence of a CT scan on the chest with diagnostic characteristics of Corona infection, or a blood analysis showing the likely characteristics of Corona infection,” while the confirmed case is “a suspected or potential case that has been confirmed.
