Bill and Melinda Gates divorced early this week. American media puzzled together that Bill Gates’ relationship with the late financial manager Jeffrey Epstein would be at the root of the split. Gates denied that, but now says it was “a huge mistake to spend time with him.”

Bill Gates has been officially separated from Melinda French Gates since Monday. American media including The Washington Post accumulating evidence that without the contact between Bill Gates and Jeffrey Epstein, that separation might never have come about.

“I had no friendly or business relationship with Mr. Epstein,” Bill Gates said after being associated with the convicted sex offender shortly after Epstein’s suicide in prison two years ago. However, the many documented meetings between the two, which were very frequent from 2011 to 2013, contradicted that statement.

Gates declared yesterday CNN that he only associated with Epstein so that the latter would raise significant funds for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. “You know, I dined with him several times, hoping that what he told me about the billions of support he would collect from acquaintances for world health projects would prove real. When it didn’t look like he would, the bond between us came to an end,” Gates said. “It was a huge mistake to spend time with him and give him credibility.”

In 2013, Melinda French Gates also met Epstein. She was disgusted by the man, who already had a conviction for paid sex with a minor at the time. An incident he consistently described as no worse than stealing ‘a bagel’. French Gates then swore her husband to cut off contact with him.
When Epstein ended up in jail in 2019 for, among other things, people smuggling and pedophilia, it turned out that Gates had also been present in a country residence of Epstein where he regularly organized parties with underage prostitutes. In the fall of 2019, French Gates would have started preparing for the divorce.
• Charity does not have to disappear with love
To the outside world, the two parted on good terms. They also plan to continue to run the mighty Gates Foundation together. Since Gates relinquished his Microsoft board seat — or had to resign because of a… inappropriate relationship with a co-worker – he devoted a lot of time to the charitable organization.
If the ex-couple fails to manage the Foundation in harmony for the next two years, Gates will buy out his ex-wife with his own capital. That way she could start a new charitable initiative herself. However, he hopes she will stay: “That would be best for the Foundation. Melinda has incredible strengths that just make the Foundation better,” he concluded.
