Barret will take over from Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a liberal judge who died this Friday.
The nomination promises to create a huge discussion in American society, not long after a presidential election that promises to be tough and may even end in the Supreme Court.
With the name of Amy Coney Barret confirmed, Supreme Court judges with a conservative pending will have a majority of 6 against the highest court in the United States of America.
Barrett is a judge’s third choice for the Supreme Court since Donald Trump took office. He also appointed Neil Gorsuch in 2017 and Brett Kavanaugh as early as 2018.
The nine Supreme Representatives are appointed to serve throughout their lives. The decisions that come out of this court often define the country’s public policies, from cases related to weapons, to abortion and even campaign financing.
In recent years, this court has allowed gay marriages in all 50 states, allowed Muslims to control entry into the country and delayed the plan to reduce carbon emissions.
Judge of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeal in Chicago, a devout Catholic who worked with former conservative judge Antonin Scalia, Barrett was “deeply honored” by the confidence shown by Trump at a ceremony in the gardens of the White House.
Barrett will have been on the list of possible nominees in 2018, when Trump chose Brett Kavanaugh to replace Anthony Kennedy.
At 48, if confirmed, Barrett will be the youngest judge in the United States Supreme Court, where the nine elements can remain for life.
