London (AP) – The British government is in talks with the European Football Union UEFA about the relocation of the Champions League final from Turkey to Great Britain.
“There are delicate negotiations that are underway at the moment,” said British Deputy Prime Minister Michael Gove. “I’m sure the fans in the UK would love to see the final played here in the UK.” Upon request, UEFA did not want to officially comment on this and a possible schedule. Most recently, the Continental Association had stated that it needed “some time” to “think about the subject”.
If the final is postponed, London’s Wembley Stadium would be the logical choice as the venue. The Premier League clubs Chelsea FC and Manchester City will face each other in the final on May 29 Because of the Corona situation in Turkey, the British government has put the country on a red list and has already warned fans not to fly to Istanbul for the final. Anyone entering Great Britain from Turkey must go to quarantine in a Corona hotel at their own expense. UEFA recently hoped that some spectators would be admitted to the final.
