Gerhard Struber’s move from the English second division club Barnsley to the New York Red Bulls is official. Both clubs confirmed this on their websites on Tuesday. Struber, who managed to stay in the league with Barnsley in his first season and still had an ongoing contract until 2022, signed a contract of unknown duration in the “Big Apple”.
“The challenge of working in MLS makes me proud and gives me extreme motivation for this great opportunity,” Struber was quoted on the RB homepage. The Red Bulls, who are involved in Major League Soccer, have been looking for a coach since separating from Chris Armas. Struber worked for a number of years in the youth division of Red Bull Salzburg as a supervisor, so he is returning to the RB network. Kevin Thelwell, the head of Sport at RB New York, Struber boasted as a “brilliant coach”. “We are very happy to welcome him to the club.”

Barnsley was “deeply disappointed” at the loss. The club’s hands were tied due to an exit clause anchored in the contract. The Americans made use of this, the rumored sum for the 43-year-old former WAC and Liefering coach is two million euros. As soon as entry into the USA is secured, he will start work, said Red Bull.

Struber had only moved from WAC to England last November, with Barnsley he then successfully managed to stay in the league championship in a heartbeat finish. According to the club, Brentford night will always remain in the hearts of fans. “Gerhard will always be part of this great club.”
For Gerhard Struber it is a return to Red Bull. The 43-year-old Struber had already worked as a supervisor in the youth division of Red Bull Salzburg for several years. From July 2015 to the end of May 2016 he was assistant coach of the combat team before Struber coached the U-16 team for a year. He then worked as a trainer and talent manager at FC Liefering.
