Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government has decided to extend the Java-Bali Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) period for the next two weeks.
This was stated by the Spokesperson for the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan as quoted by Antara detik.com, Monday (17/1/2022).
“[PPKM Jawa-Bali diperpanjang] until the 24th,” said Jodi.
In a press conference after a limited meeting, the government itself has decided to re-implement the weekly PPKM assessment in line with the surge in the Omicron Covid-19 variant in Indonesia.
“The government will again conduct a PPKM assessment which is evaluated every week and remove the two-week assessment, solely to follow the development of the Omicron case which is predicted to increase very quickly,” said Coordinating Minister Luhut.
Luhut stressed that the government will continue to monitor the development of cases of the Omicron variant in a number of countries, to anticipate various possibilities that may occur in the future.
The government, Luhut emphasized, will also take various mitigation measures so that the trend of increasing Omicron cases in Indonesia can be much more controlled than in other countries.
“The government will take various mitigation measures so that the increase in cases that occur is more gentle compared to other countries so that it does not burden our health system,” he said.
Luhut estimates that the peak of the Omicron wave in Indonesia will occur in mid-February to early March this year.
