Official, Nuno Espirito Santo Becomes the New Coach of Tottenham Hotspur: Okezone Bola

LONDON Tottenham Hotspur finally officially announced arrival Nuno Espírito Santo as their new coach. Nuno fills the place that was left by Jose Mourinho after being sacked by Tottenham on April 19, 2021.

After sacking Mourinho, Tottenham actually appointed Ryan Mason as caretaker. However, the club management is still looking for a new head coach. Nuno was selected after four years in charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Under his tutelage, Wolverhampton could penetrate the 2019-2020 Europa League quarter-finals.

The Portuguese coach also received a contract for two seasons. That way, if nothing goes wrong, Nuno Espirito Santo will stay at Tottenham until the end of June 2023.

“Welcome to Tottenham Hotspur, Nuno Espirito Santo,” tweeted Tottenham on its official Twitter, @spursofficial, Thursday (1/7/2021).

To find a replacement for Mourinho, Tottenham themselves need to go through a complicated road. There were a number of names that the club nicknamed The Lilywhites approached before finally agreeing to sign Nuno.

Previously, there was Antonio Conte who was linked with the club. Then, Tottenham switched to Paulo Fonseca. Gennaro Gattuso’s name was also linked with Tottenham, but an agreement was not reached with the former Napoli coach.

Nuno’s presence is certainly expected to help Tottenham rise from adversity. Harry Kane and his friends are known to have to swallow the bitter pill in the 2020-2021 season by only finishing seventh in the 2020-2021 Premier League standings.

“First of all, I would like to welcome Nuno to the club. We would like to thank our supporters for all their patience throughout this process. I believe Nuno is the one who can bring our talented players in, embrace our young players coming in and build something special,” said Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, as quoted from Tottenham’s official website.
