Sport reached an agreement with Micael Sequeira to take technical control of the women’s top football team. The 51-year-old coach, who was Ruben Amorim’s assistant at Sp.
In a statement, Spòrs emphasizes the coach’s international experience: «In addition to many years attending youth football at Sp. Braga – where he was also part of the senior technical team -, he worked at clubs such as CD Aves, FC Famalicão or CD Trofense. After experiences in Saudi Arabia (Al Nassr FC) and Uzbekistan (PFC Lokomotiv Tashkent), he also coached Vitória FC in 2022/2023», they say.
The assistant coach is Hugo Xavier, who was introduced along with Squeira, by Frederico Varandas. He made statements on the club’s official website:
“It is a great honor to be present here. It was an invitation that gives me great honor, supported by a fantastic structure. I thank the president [Frederico Varandas] and the rest of the structure for the trust. What made me accept it was the confidence I have in the whole structure, in the players and in the technical team to contribute to an excellent season. With titles, preferably”, he began by telling the media.
The coach will try to «contribute to the great growth of the team»: «The challenge is what made me come to women’s football, a new experience in football that is growing a lot. I hope to contribute to their development and be able to empower the players to achieve the results we want and which are part of Sporting’s DNA: winning”, he said.
Mariana Cabral ended her association with the main team after eight years of service to the club.
