OFFICIAL: Luis De La Fuente The new Spain coach replaces Luis Enrique

Fuente won numerous titles while still controlling the Spanish age group squad.

The Spanish football federation (RFEF) has named a replacement for the sacked Luis Enrique. Luis de La Fuente has been appointed as the new coach of La Furia Roja.

Enrique was removed from his post today (8/12). Spain’s failure to go further in the 2022 World Cup was the main reason the 52-year-old was sent off.

Spain were eliminated in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup. Sergio Busquets and his friends were defeated by Morocco on penalties with a score of 3-0, at the Educational City Stadium, on Tuesday (6/12).

“The RFEF has appointed Luis de la Fuente as the new national team coach. Sports director Jose Francisco Molina has chosen him and he will report to RFEF president Luis Rubiales,” the RFEF said on its official website.

“Molina will present the minutes of appointment [Fuente] Next Monday, December 12, at the RFEF board of directors”.

Fuente is no stranger to Matador State football. Since 2013, the former Athletic Bilbao player has been contracted by the RFEF to coach the Spanish team at various age levels.

Numerous results were presented by Fuente. Starting with the victory of the Under 19 and Under 21 European Cups, gold at the Mediterranean Games with the Under 18s, then silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Fuente’s debut in charge of Spain will come in March in Euro 2024 qualifying. He will lead his team for two matches against Norway and Scotland.
