End of career for Logan Sargeant! Williams announced Tuesday evening that the American Formula 1 driver will be replaced by Franco Colapinto from next weekend. James Vowles has decided to replace Sargeant with Colapinto after the poor results during the Dutch GP. Mick Schumacher and Liam Lawson are missing out in this case.

Franco Colapinto, a 21-year-old driver from Argentina, will be the new teammate of Alex Albon. Colapinto has been part of the training program since 2023 Williams and will compete in Formula 2 for the second time this year with the Dutch MP Motorsport. “It is an honour to make my debut in Formula 1 with Williams,” he says. “The team has such a great history and I can’t wait to be part of it. Stepping into Formula 1 in the middle of the season won’t be easy, but I am ready for the challenge.”
The young Argentine, who already drove a free practice session during the race weekend at Silverstone earlier this year, will line up alongside Alexander Albon for the remaining nine Grands Prix. He will be sacrificed next year in any case for the benefit of Carlos Sainz; the Spaniard previously signed a multi-year contract with Williams.
Logan Sargeant
The 23-year-old Sargeant had been under pressure within the team for some time. His crash in the third free practice in Zandvoort, in which he parked a recently renewed car in the wall, was said to have been the decisive factor for his replacement. During the race weekend, James Vowles already spoke to Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff about possible replacements. Mick Schumacher and Liam Lawson were immediately linked to the second Williams seat. Both missed out on Tuesday night.

“It is not an easy decision to change your driver in the middle of the season,” he responded Vowles“but we believe this gives Williams the best chance to fight for points for the rest of the season. Franco Colapinto has a fantastic opportunity to show what he is capable of. For Logan (Sargeant, ed.) this will undoubtedly be incredibly tough. He has given everything during his time at Williams, and we want to thank him for all his hard work. He remains a talented driver and we will continue to support him in his racing career.”
