Official! Jokowi Appoints ITB Professor Tutuka to be Director General of Oil and Gas

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif confirmed the appointment of Professor of Mining and Petroleum Engineering at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) Tutuka Ariadji as Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

This was confirmed by Arifin via short message to CNBC Indonesia, Wednesday (04/11/2020).

“That’s right,” answered Arifin, Wednesday (04/11/2020), when CNBC Indonesia asked if it was true that Tutuka Ariadji was elected as Director General of Oil and Gas.

With the appointment of Tutuka as Director General of Oil and Gas, this indicates that the position no.1 in the Directorate General of Oil and Gas is no longer vacant after more than one year of uncertainty regarding officials.

As is well known, in July 2019 the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan rotated Djoko Siswanto, who at that time served as Director General of Oil and Gas to become Secretary General of the National Energy Council. However, after that, Djoko Siswanto concurrently became the Acting Director (Plt) of the Director General of Oil and Gas.

But in January 2020, ESDM Minister Arifin Tasrif removed Djoko Siswanto as Acting Director General of Oil and Gas and transferred him to Ego Syahrial who is concurrently the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The position auction for the position of Director General of Oil and Gas has also been held since last year. In fact, the position of the Director General of Oil and Gas was determined longer than the position of the Director General of Mineral and Coal (Minerba), which was vacant in May 2020 due to the retirement of the Director General of Mineral and Coal Bambang Gatot Ariyono. Ridwan Djamaluddin, former Deputy III for Infrastructure Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, was finally appointed as Director General of Mineral and Coal on August 10, 2020.

Quoted from the ITB website, Tutuka earned his master and doctoral degrees at Texas A&M University, United States of America in 1994 and 1996 respectively, and completed his bachelor’s degree at ITB in 1988.

Now, Tutuka is a Professor at the Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering ITB with a group of expertise in Drilling, Production and Oil and Gas Management Engineering.
