The news has been circulating for days, but the official announcement arrived recently.
The Mexican Jaime Munguia(44-1) will fight next December 14th at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana against the Frenchman of Italian origins Bruno “Brunello” Surace (25-0-2).
The choice of the Top Rank company was a surprise given that “Brunello” does not appear in any world ranking and that he is not known internationally given that he has never fought outside of France.
Munguia fought for the last time last September in Glendale when he defeated the undefeated Armenian-Canadian Eric Bazinyan by knockout in the tenth round, in the match that marked his return from the defeat against Canelo Alvarez for the unified super middleweight world championship.
Former WBO super welterweight champion, n. 2 Wbc, n.3 WBA and WBO and n. 5 IBF, Munguia is now managed by Top Rank following the end of his contract with Golden Boy Promotion.
Surace, 26 years old, born and resident in Marseille but originally from Reggio Calabria, is the current holder of the Silver EBU Middleweight Title, a belt he won in December 2023 by beating the Colombian resident in Spain Jader Obregon by knockout in the twelfth round.
