Production of the Mondeo will be completed in a year, the company announced officially. Ford, on the other hand, will continue to assemble the large S-Max and Galaxy minivans.
The carmaker has announced that the Valencia plant will be re-equipped to produce electric cars, stopping the assembly of one of Europe’s most iconic cars in 30 years – the Mondeo. More than 5 million Mondeos have been produced since 1993. The suspension of the model is due to the “evolution in demand” of customers in Europe, namely the advent of crossovers.
In 2020, 39% of Ford passenger car sales are SUVs and crossovers, eight percent more than in 2019.
Therefore, the brand will focus on its SUV models. In 2020, the company renewed the Kuga, then launched the big Explorer for the first time on the Old Continent. Next comes the electric Mustang Mach-E, another SUV and another purely electric model.
