Official Announcement: E3 2023 Cancelled

ESA and ReedPop have announced that E3 2023 has been canceled and for the third consecutive year, the Los Angeles Convention Center will not be used to celebrate video games in June. More than that, not even a digital event will exist.

As revealed by the organizers to the Games IndustryE3 is an event that buzzes with announcements from the industry’s top publishers, designed to embrace audiences and heighten the celebration of video games, but one that needed to evolve to adapt to changes in the industry.

Stanley Pierre-Louis, CEO and President of the ESA, told GI.biz that “It all started off very well. There was interest from exhibitors, industry players, media and certainly from fans. However, challenges arose which proved to be too many to overcome. .”

Several companies reported changes in development deadlines due to the pandemic, economic difficulties have motivated many companies to change the way they invest in large events, and other companies have started to bet on their own digital events.

For the ESA, the objective of streamlining E3 was being carried out satisfactorily and Reedpop showed its capabilities well, but it is the companies working in the industry that dictate the ever-changing trends, which will require continuous adaptation.

To ensure that E3 doesn’t disappear for good, the organizers will speak with the various partners and try to find ways to respond to their needs and interests. Asked if we will have an E3 2024, Pierre-Louis was optimistic.

“We are committed to providing the industry with a platform for marketing and meeting, but we want to make sure we find the right balance that meets the needs of the industry. We will listen and ensure that what we offer matches the needs and at that time, we will share more news.”
